The Food & Drug Administration (FDA ) requires hundreds to thousands of clinical trials with human subjects to determine the risks and benefits of a medication. So far, researchers haven’t conducted enough large-scale clinical trials to make a determination about whether the benefits of the cannabis plant, as opposed to its cannabinoid ingredients, outweigh its risks to potential patients. The FDA has approved one drug product containing purified cannabidiol for the treatment of seizures.
